The Deputy Chairperson of National Council, Dr Sonam Kinga launches the website

Till now, the enthusiastic cyber intelligentsias in Bhutan have been zealously following the Hon Opposition Leader Tshering Tobgay’s blog. Some shared their views and opinions whereas some just commented to show their irritable attitude enjoying anonymity in the cyber media to lambast the government and the leaders they despised. Opposition Leader’s blog has given the new crop of Bhutanese people the platform to view their opinions. They are given the access to hear the alternative views from the pens of dynamic opposition leader. On the other hand, opposition leaders know the hopes and dreams of both supporters and detractors. Now we have another blog to read from another great and dynamic upcoming leader of the nation. Let there be a National Literary Award in Bhutan

Image
Most of the foreigners who visited the Bhutan as tourists and volunteers attempt to write the books on Bhutan describing its culture and environment. Bhutan perhaps gives them the peace and tranquility that are conducive to cultivate their creative juices. On other hand, the Bhutanese writers find it hard to find the readers for their works, forget the recognition. Many people have written the books either in national language or English language just to gather dusts on the bookshelf of local bookstores across the country. Of two genres, the fiction and non-fiction, the non-fictions seem to do little better. The non-fiction books are, at least, referred to by some curious foreigners and some local graduates attempting the civil service examinations.   Unlike its twin brother non-fiction, the fiction books hardly sell in Bhutan.   Visit to any bookstore in the capital. Select a book by Bhutanese author and secretly mark it. After three months, you will see th...

Ponzi Scam is illegal but all Financial Institutions run with the same Model

The recent media reports stated that the Ponzi scam hit the 12 districts, the majority of which are the eastern Dzongkhags. The online internet scam has swindled 539 people of their hard earned Nu. 7.1 million. The scam was able to find victims even in the farmers who hardly understood the mechanism of internet. Scam was able to victimized huge numbers of people in the world, banking on unlimited human desire.   The Ponzi scam was first started as Ponzi scheme by an Italian-American Carlo ‘Charlie’ Ponzi in 1920s. During that time, the world postal offices used to issue the International Reply Coupon that could be exchanged for postal stamps throughout the postal members of the world. Ponzi who didn’t really have clean criminal record had an idea that could change the business of the world forever. He probably thought, ‘what if I buy the coupon at the lower prices from one country and sell it at higher prices in some other countries?’  Ponzi bought little over US$ 100 w...

Five HIV Positive People Come to Public

Coinciding with the World AIDS Day on 1 st December 2011, five HIV Positive people decided to go public with their disease. These brave acts on the part of these people will go down in the Bhutanese history as an exemplary deed  who put their life, reputation and public out casting  on the line to educate people about AIDS and demystify so that people do not conceive the AIDS as demonized killer as the people conceived now. Such brave actions from them wouldn’t have come in more opportune time than now when Bhutan has detected 270 HIV Positive people with 48 people dead till now since its first detection in 1998. In last month alone 24 people were detected. UNAIDS estimated that Bhutan would have more than 500 infected people till now. This brave action is also an opportunity to view the disease from the third perspectives. Till now, we have been hearing about the AIDS from only two perspectives; health and Public. Till recently, the media and health officials have e...

Drama: Four essential elements in Drama

Four Conditions Essential to Any Drama 1.       An unresolved issues with the outcome in doubt 2.       A deep commitment to action by character with whom we can identify with 3.       The character must be involved in a conflict at which has, at its heart, high personal stake. 4.       Urgency or a sense of deadline. Introduction Braveheart was made in 1995 based on life story of 13 th century knight Sir William Wallace set on the backdrop of Scottish fight for the independence against King Edward I of England infamously known as Longshank.  It is semi-fictional dramatic war epic directed by Mel Gibson. Williams’s father and brother died fighting against the Englishmen when he was a little child. He was taken care of by his uncle and travelled around Europe with him until he was about 20 years old. Then he returned to his original home place. Here William ...

The Tears of Clown

Image
Like a clown I roam this world. My youth is fast fading before my age. I am getting bald and weak. Day by day, the massive change occurred in my body. I wondered what God thought when He scripted my story. Four years ago, I was happiest man alive on the planet. I thought the ending of my life story would like the story of ‘the beauty and the beast’. I thought God had put me through enough test and he was giving me a reward. As a child I was thrown against the storm of cruel fate as if I was the Adam himself who went against the will of God. With the last ounce of energy left in my system, with last drop of sinew left in my bone and with last strength left in my muscle, I endured God’s fury like a domiciled prisoner. I struggled hard to understand the God’s fury with education for I knew the pen is always mightier than the sword. Then, God, your cruel fury knew no bound. You knew that I wouldn’t break down with the punishment you meted out to me. You were jealous of my strength...
